Celestyal Discovery in Kuşadası: a short morning, and no safari
No ship on our cruise excursions list calls at Kuşadası as often as Celestyal Discovery, and none gets a plainer answer from us: not on this call. The port schedule as of early October 2026 lists 78 calls over the next 12 months, every one of them on a Saturday or a Tuesday. On nearly all of them she is alongside from 07:00 and gone by 12:00 or 13:00.
Five or six hours in port sounds like plenty. The trouble is where those hours fall. Our morning safari is still out on the trails when she sails. Rather than leave you to work that out at the pier, this post sets out the numbers. Why 13:00 is too early
We run two sessions a day, at 11:00 and 16:00. Cruise passengers meet us at the Kervansaray meeting point (The Big Ottoman Palace), about 50 m from the cruise port exit, at 10:10 for the morning ride. After a drive of about 15 minutes, a ride of about two hours and a 30-minute break on Pamucak beach, we are back at the port between 13:45 and 14:15.
Our rule is simple: you must be back at the port at least 60 minutes before your ship departs. For the 11:00 tour, that means the ship has to leave at 15:15 or later. For the 16:00 tour, she has to be in port by 15:10 and leave at 20:15 or later.
Here is what a typical Celestyal Discovery morning would look like if you tried:
- 07:00 the ship arrives
- 10:10 you meet us at Kervansaray
- 11:00 the ride starts
- 13:00 the ship sails, while the group is still out on the trails or on the beach break
- 13:45 to 14:15 we would be back at a port your ship has already left
On the 07:00–12:00 days the gap is wider still. No amount of hurrying closes it, so we do not offer the safari on these calls.
How the year breaks down
The pattern is steady, with a few changes through the seasons:
- 58 calls at 07:00–13:00. This covers Tuesday 6 October to Tuesday 20 October 2026, then Saturday 3 April to Saturday 2 October 2027.
- 18 calls at 07:00–12:00. From Saturday 24 October to Tuesday 24 November 2026, and all of March 2027. The March calls are also in our winter closure (1 December to 31 March), with no safari.
- Saturday 28 November 2026, 08:00–15:00. This is the closest she comes. The 11:00 tour is back by 14:15 at the latest, which leaves 45 minutes before departure. We need 60, so there is no safari that day either.
- Saturday 9 January 2027. The port times have not been announced yet, and the date is in our winter closure.
None of the published calls gets anywhere near the afternoon session, which needs the ship to stay until 20:15 or later.
The January call, and how to read any new date
The times for Saturday 9 January 2027 are not public yet, but this time they do not matter. Our safaris are closed from 1 December to 31 March, so 9 January is the winter closure and there is no safari that day, whatever hours she is given. They run again from April.
If Celestyal Cruises adds or changes a call in the riding season, two checks tell you everything once the times appear on the ship page or in your cruise documents:
- For the 11:00 tour, the ship must be in port by 10:10 and leave at 15:15 or later.
- For the 16:00 tour, the ship must be in port by 15:10 and leave at 20:15 or later.
Also look at the all-aboard time in your ship's daily programme. It is usually earlier than the departure time, and it is the one that counts for you. If a call from April onwards ends up with longer hours, the ship page will show which tour fits.
When a ride is still possible
If your trip includes a night or two in Kuşadası before or after the cruise, the port hours stop mattering. Passengers staying in town can book any day from April to November, with pickup from their hotel.
Each tour lasts about two hours on pine-forest trails behind Pamucak beach and includes a 30-minute sea break on the beach. The quad safari and buggy safari need no driving licence; drivers must be 16 or older. You can take a single or a double vehicle and follow a guide in convoy. Children younger than about 2 years cannot join. The horse safari suits beginners from age 8 (younger children with an experienced adult companion), with a riding guide and a small group. On the horse safari, swimming in the sea depends on the season.

Before you sail
If you are on board for a 07:00–13:00 or 07:00–12:00 call, plan a morning that keeps you close to the harbour and back well before all-aboard. A safari is not something to squeeze in on these days.
