Oosterdam in Kuşadası: an early arrival and a mid-morning ride

On Friday 9 October 2026, Oosterdam is due in Kuşadası from 08:00 to 17:00. That is actually her latest arrival on the whole schedule. On the other eight calls listed for the next 12 months, the Holland America Line ship is alongside by 07:00.

An early ship and a mid-morning safari make a good pair. Our 11:00 ride fits every one of her nine calls, and there is a relaxed start to the day built in. What changes from call to call is the departure time, and with it how much margin you have once the ride is over. All the dates, with their current hours, are on the Oosterdam calls page.

Oosterdam is a Vista-class ship and has sailed for Holland America Line since 2003. The line lists her at 1,972 guests.

Three hours before the meeting time

When the ship ties up at 07:00, you have a little over three hours before you need to be anywhere. Our meeting point for the 11:00 ride is Kervansaray (The Big Ottoman Palace), roughly 50 m from the exit of the cruise port, and we meet there at 10:10. Here is the location on the map.

Three hours is enough to have breakfast on board without hurry, then walk off the ship for a look along the waterfront. Set yourself a time to start back towards Kervansaray, because three free hours can disappear surprisingly quickly. If you arrive a few minutes early, that is fine.

On the 08:00 day in October the free morning is an hour shorter, but the meeting time stays at 10:10.

The ride, then the margin

From Kervansaray a vehicle takes the group about 15 minutes to the start of the trails. The ride starts at 11:00 and lasts around two hours through pine forest behind Pamucak beach, with a 30-minute pause on the beach in the middle. By 13:45 to 14:15 you are back at the port.

The departure time decides how much of the afternoon you then have. Our rule is a minimum of 60 minutes between your return and departure. Here is how Oosterdam's calls compare against a return of 14:15 at the latest:

• Leaving at 19:00 (Tuesday 20 October 2026, Wednesday 5 May 2027): about 4 hours 45 minutes or more. The most generous of her days.
• Leaving at 18:00 (Monday 3 May, and Fridays 11 June, 2 July, 23 July and 3 September 2027): about 3 hours 45 minutes or more. This is her most common timetable.
• Leaving at 17:00 (Friday 9 October 2026): about 2 hours 45 minutes or more.
• Leaving at 16:00 (Tuesday 28 September 2027): about 1 hour 45 minutes or more. Still inside our rule, but the tightest of the nine.

For the September 2027 date in particular, check the all-aboard time printed in your daily programme. It is usually earlier than the departure time, and that is the time that really counts.

Why we only offer the morning for Oosterdam

The afternoon tour meets at 15:10 and comes back between 18:45 and 19:15. Even on her two 19:00 days, Oosterdam would be sailing at the moment the group got back. To run the 16:00 ride we would need her to stay until 20:15 or later, and none of her current calls do.

Choosing your safari

All three tours share the timetable above, so the choice is only about how you want to spend those two hours.

On the quad safari and the buggy safari you drive yourself. No driving licence is required, but drivers must be at least 16, and children under about 2 cannot ride along. Single and double vehicles are available. Both come with a helmet, goggles and a safety briefing, and the group follows a guide in convoy.

The horse safari needs no riding experience. It is a small group led by a riding guide, riders from 8 go on their own (younger children with an experienced adult companion), and helmets are provided. On horseback, a swim at the beach stop depends on the season.

Planning your Oosterdam day

The cruise day planner does the timing check for you. Choose Oosterdam and your date; it shows the 11:00 tour for every call on the current schedule and prepares the booking form. The 2027 dates, from May to September, work the same way as the October ones. The long gap in her list between October and May happens to cover our winter break: the safaris are closed from 1 December to 31 March and start again on 1 April, a month before she is back.
