Reading Viking Vela's port times for a Kuşadası safari

Viking Vela's Kuşadası calls come in a small cluster each side of winter. The port schedule as of early October 2026 lists six for her over the next 12 months: Sunday 8 November, Sunday 15 November and Wednesday 25 November 2026, then Wednesday 2 December, and two in February 2027, on Tuesday 9 and Saturday 13 February.

The port times have not been announced yet for any of them. When they are, you will probably see them in more than one place, and they will not all mean the same thing. This post is about reading them correctly. The dates, with times as they are confirmed, are on the Viking Vela page.

Viking Vela was delivered to Viking in December 2024 and carries about 998 guests in 499 staterooms, according to the line.

Three November calls, three winter ones

Only the November dates fall within our safari season. Our quad, buggy and horse safaris are closed from 1 December to 31 March. Wednesday 2 December falls just inside that winter closure, and both February calls are inside it too. On those three dates there is no safari, whatever the times say. Safaris run again from April.

Everything below applies to the three November calls.

Where the times will show up

On our ship page and in the planner. We add the arrival and departure for each call to the Viking Vela page once the port schedule publishes them, together with the session that fits.

In your Viking cruise documents. Your itinerary should give the time the ship is due in Kuşadası and the time she sails. If these differ from what our page shows, tell us; schedules do change, and the newest information wins.

In the daily programme on board. This is where the all-aboard time appears. It is usually earlier than the departure time, and on the day it is the one that matters most.

Turning a time into a yes or no

Our rides start at 11:00 and 16:00, and you need to be back at the port at least 60 minutes before the ship leaves. Read the two numbers like this:

  • If she is in port by 10:10 and leaves at 15:15 or later, the 11:00 ride works.
  • If she is in port by 15:10 and leaves at 20:15 or later, the 16:00 ride works.

Then hold the result against the all-aboard time. If that would leave you less than an hour after we return you, treat the all-aboard time as the limit. If a call looks like an overnight, or the numbers are close, a WhatsApp message to us is quicker than guessing.

An afternoon ride, from ship to beach and back

Suppose your November call clears the 16:00 test. You can take the morning slowly, then walk to the Kervansaray meeting point (The Big Ottoman Palace), about 50 m from the cruise port exit (map), for 15:10. The drive out to the trails behind Pamucak beach takes about 15 minutes. From 16:00 you ride for roughly two hours through pine forest, with a 30-minute break on the beach, and you are back at the port between 18:45 and 19:15.

If it is the 11:00 test your call passes, the pattern is the same five hours earlier: meet at 10:10, back between 13:45 and 14:15.

Who suits which ride

The horse safari is the gentler choice: beginners are welcome from age 8, younger children can ride with an experienced companion, groups are small and a riding guide leads; on that tour, swimming at the beach depends on the season. The quad and buggy safaris need no driving licence, take drivers from 16, come as single or double vehicles and include a helmet, goggles and a safety briefing before you ride in convoy behind a guide. Children under about 2 cannot join those.

Once your November times are out

Put your date into the cruise day planner: choose Viking Vela, and it tells you which session fits and fills in the booking form. If you are staying in Kuşadası for a night before or after your cruise, that day does not depend on the ship, and from April to November we can pick you up from your hotel.
